SHOTOKAN: A Karate DOJO opened by FUNAKOSHI GICHIN in TOKYO in the 1930's. In 1947 the Shotokan dojo became the first Japanese school of martial arts to be allowed to reopen by the American occupation forces in JAPAN after World War II. (See also Karate article).
